This week, the draft continued with rounds three and four. This resulted in three new players being drafted by Colorado. Three picks remain, one in the fifth round and two in the sixth round, the 35 man Colorado roster will be rounded out by next week. Meanwhile, here are my picks this week.
Round 3
Jose Mijares, Relief Pitcher, Minnesota Twins
I drafted the lefty Mijares just over Phil Coke based on upside. Mijares is going to fill in a lefty specialist role on the team this year, helping out Jesse Carlson. Mijares is a fireballer, throwing in the high 90's with his fastball. However, he does have some control issues, but he is young and has a bright future ahead.
Round 4
Sam Fuld, Outfielder, Chicago Cubs
I was torn over drafting either extra outfielder Fuld, first base prospect Mike Carp, or veteran Fernando Tatis. I chose to go with Fuld since outfield is my weakness in my lineup. Fuld had a good September with the Cubs and projects to be a fourth or fifth outfielder for them this year. I have nothing to lose in this young hitter.
Mike Carp, first baseman, Seattle Mariners
After letting Carp slide past my first pick in the fourth round, he remained ten spots later. With Fuld and Tatis both gone, I easily had no problem taking Carp. carp is a solid hitter average speaking, and had a solid stint in September for the Mariners. He is on the Seattle 40 man roster, but has Casey Kotchman ahead of him on the depth chart. I am hoping Carp will give me at least an insurance option at first if Dan Murphy flops, and he may make the Corsair opening day roster as a backup.
Fantasy tennis this week as in Paris, France, for the Open GDF Suex, a premier tournament. I kicked off the tournament is the singles qualifying round, taking on fellow American Samantha. I won in a tiebreaker, moving on to the final qualifying round. There I met a tough Italian player, Flavia. Despite being ranked lower, I managed to edge out Flavia 3-2, allowing me to qualify for the main draw yet again. i am now undefeated in qualifying round matches, 7-0 so farin 2010.
In the main draw, I kicked things off with a match against Argentinian Gigi, who I have played the second most time in my career, it was our sixth ever meeting. I beat Gigi in a tiebreaker, the go to the second round. My singles run ended there, as I was defeated my Shisui of China and eliminated.
In doubles, Ryan and I had to start against the number three seeds Ricky and David from the Netherlands. A solid gamble Ryan took paid off and we won 7-6 to move on to the quarterfinals. We moved on to play Nick, from France, and Tomak, from Croatia. It was a quarterfinal demolition, as Ryan and I cruised to a 7-4 victory. It would send us to the semifinals, which were played today, against the two seeded Chinese pairing of Ayai and Lenai. It appears we lost in a tiebreaker, but official results are not in yet.
Next week, I am heading to the United Arab Emirates, where we have the Barclays Dubai Tennis Championships from Dubai. Dubai is a huge event, with 64 players makign the singles main draw and 32 for the doubles. This means I automatically make both main draws for just the second time in 2010. Draws have not yet been made, play will being for singles on Sunday, or tomorrow night Eastern time, and doubles will begin Monday, or Sunday night Eastern time.
