Fantasy Sports Friday

The fantasy season doldrums continue with baseball and football in offseason mode, however next week is huge in the fantasy tennis world with the Australian Open looming.

Fantasy Tennis

Last week, I made another great qualifying round run, this time in Sydney at the Medibank Championships. Once again forced to qualify, I won two straight qualifying rounds to enter the singles main draw for the first time in 2010. After beating Ronald in the second qualifying round, I managed to edge out the Belgium player Juki, 10-9, to advance to the main draw. Interestingly, I was paired against another qualifier, a young player named KAtherine from Slovakia. A lot of bad picks by me ended in a huge loss and I ws eliminated from singles in one, swift round.

In doubles, Ryan and I also struggled, getting kncoked otu in the first round by the pair of Eduardo of Spain and Stuart of Great Britain. We are now a dismal 0-2 to start the doubles season as we lost 14-13.

This week is the first Grand Slam of the season and a huge torunament personally for me, as I am in need of a good showing to boost my ranking. The singles main draw has been determined, and my first round opponent is Dennis of Poland. I have played Dennis once before, beating him last summer in a tournmanet in Brimingham, England. Singles play will begin on Monday. The doubles main draw has not yet been made, but Ryan and I are slated as the 13th seed thanks to our ranking.
