It's late here on New Year's Day, before I doze off and forget to put this up, here's this week's Fantasy Sports Friday, which has gotten shorter with fantasy football season officially done, it will return to this segment sometime in July.
Fantasy Baseball
The league's free agent draft is currently sitting at the 22nd pick of the 1st round, with Spokane, with the owner of Spokane on vacation until Monday, the draft is taking a small hiatus. My next selection is coming up soon, the 8th pick of the second round. I continue to look to deal this pick away for a shortstop as I am still in need of one for the 2010 season and no full-time shortstops remain available in the draft. I am hoping to make a deal within a few days.
Meanwhile, as my regular players for 2010 begin to shape up, I am looking to see what I can do with my muddled DH position. My original plan was to split DH this year between Pat Burrell, last year's DH, and Vladimir Guerrero, the former RF who has been relegated to DH due to knee problems and will only be available half of the season due to his injury last year. However, I also have two other players who can play regularly that are without jobs. David Eckstein, who I have been looking to deal since the 2009 season ended, as well as Willy Taveras, who became disposable after I traded for Franklin Gutierrez. I am now considering having Guerrero and Eckstein split the DH role, and dealing Burrell and Taveras instead othe original plan, but I am going to look more into the situation as time rolls on.
For now, my main goal is to figure out a solution at shortstop and go from there. Hopefully, a solution will be found by next Friday.
Fantasy Tennis
This week is the first tournamnet of the 2010 fantasy tennis season, the Brisbane International. I ended the 2009 season with a singles ranking of 70 and doubles ranking of 48. My poor singles ranking meant I had to play in the qualifying round for the tournament, which actually started on New Year's Day, in Australia, which was actually yesterday (I hope you followed that lol.)
My first match in the qualifyign round was against the a Serbian player named Danielle (don't know the last name.) She's one of the newer players to the circuit and it showed, I smoked her 12-9 to move onto the second round which is today.
Today's battle is proving to be a little tougher, the second qualifying round of three. My meeting is with a rookie from Taiwan named Jan Yung. Saturday's matches are currently in progress over in Brisbane, with our score tied up at 2-2, with six matches on the schedule remaining. I should know the result of my match in the morning, with a win, I move onto the final qualifying round.
In doubles, my high ranking with Ryan has allowed us to qualify for the doubles main draw, which does not being until Tuesday. Our firts round match for Tuesday is already out, with a tough meetign ahead of us wit the team of Geronimo from Venezuela and Vincent from Canada. It is sure to be a fun and furious match. Find out how I do in Brisbane next Friday.
