Raptors Weekly Report: Losing, Losing, and more Losing

It's been a painful week for the Toronto Raptors and Raptors fans as a whole. Check that, it's been a painful MONTH for the Raptors and their fans. The only good thing I can say about this team right now is that we are in second place in our division. Thank goodness for that, if we were any lower, I might have to pull out the paper bag early this year.

Now, to be fair to Toronto, we HAVE played al ot of tough West teams early this season, we thankfully just wrapped up our season series with the top team in the West right now, Phoenix. So in all fairness, we have played some tough teams.

However, when I saw the performance the Raptors put together against the Charlotte Bobcats, of all teams, on Wednesday, I threw a fit. I don't care who you are, there's no way in any right mind that a team like the Raptors should lose on any night to a team like Charlotte by 35!!! I only watched the game because I figured it would be an easy win, but it was not to be. All the game and the remainder of the week made me realize is how poor of a team Toronto has.

The Raptors are essentially a crew of average to below average players with the exception of Chris Bosh, as well as Hedo Turkoglu, Jose Calderon, and Andrea Bargnani when they feel like showing up. I don't want to admit it, but this team needs to be blown up and rebuilt. Colangelo needs to go and possibly Triano with him. But in any case, this team needs to take a good hard look at what they have and dump the players that aren't going to produce, as well as take the players that will stay and turn them into actual basketball players. I'm sorry, but this year's Raptor team is one of the worst defensively that I've ever and the stats agree, we've allowed a ridiculous 109.3 points a game, only Golden State has allowed more. That's right, we allow more points than the Knicks and the Nets.

Anyway, onto last week's games. We actually did win a game last Tuesday, 123-112 over the Pacers. That was followed up by the embarrassment in Charlotte, a tough loss in Boston, and being blown out at home against the Suns. We allowed 112, 116, 116, and 113 points last week. What a joke.

My Raptors Picks This Week

At 7-11 (oh thank heaven) the season is far from over, but it's hard to see Toronto makign any noise with the current crew playign defense the way they are. In any case we host an equally bad Washington Wizard team tonight before going on a three game trip to Atlanta tomorrow, followed by Washington again on Friday and the Bulls on Saturday. Outside of the Hawks, there is no reason the Raptors can't win any of the games, playing mediocre teams in the Wizards and Chicago. However, my confidence has waned to the point that I feel as though they will disappoint. I'll give the Dinos a win tonight, but than an 0-3 road trip. I'm not a pessimist, I'm a realist.

Tues. vs. Washington WIN
Wed. at Atlanta LOSS
Fri. at Washington LOSS
Sat. at Chicago LOSS

Other NBA thoughts

The only thing that keeps me sane this season is the continual demise of the Nets. I am praying for a loss to Minnesota tomorrow and a new futility record for hated New Jersey. This is fun, it's like the 2008 Detroit Lions, basketball-style.

Also, Allen Iverson has retired, and now un-retired, and now I don't know what's going on, but Sixers fans seemed convinced he is Philly-bound. Please, Philadelphia, TAKE HIM!!! He can only make things worse for you guys.
