Here we go, the top ten most memorable Flyers game this decade are here. And in compiling this list, I realized how rough of a decade this has actually been for Phily. Six of these ten games are losses and four of thsoe six losses were complete blowouts. Whatever, here's the list.
10. May 4, 2004 Eastern Conference Semifinals Game 6 at Toronto (Flyers 3, Maple Leafs 2 OT)
This was one fun game and series to watch. The Flyers blew a 2-0 third period, but in overtime, Jeremy Roenick slipped in on net and put one past ed Belfour to send the Flyers to the Conference Finals. Roenick's celebration was priceless for sure.
9. April 21, 2001 Eastern Conference Quarterfinals Game 6 at Buffalo (Sabres 8, Flyers 0)
Ouch, this was essentialyly the end of the 90's Flyers for good. Roman Cehcmanek looked like an ass , Bill Barber looked like an ass, and the whole team was basically dead. Still, it would be a pattern in big games for this franchise.
8. October 17, 2006 at Buffalo (Sabres 9, Flyers 1)
The only regular season game on this list kicked off the worst season I've expereienced with an yteam. Getting blown out by Buffalo, falling to a humiliating 1-4-1 on the year and kicking off a huge rebuilding project.
7. May 2, 2006 Eastern Conference Quarterfinals Game 6 vs. Buffalo (Sabres 7, Flyers 1)
The game that basically proved the Flyers couldn't win in the post-lockout NHL. Buffalo beat us with speed and skill, trumping our size and grit philosophy.
6. May 22, 2004 Eastern Conference Finals Game 7 at Tampa Bay (Lightning 2, Flyers 1)
Our last real shot at winning the Stanley Cup came in 2004, but the Flyers could not complete a series comeback in Tampa Bay. Nikolai Khabibulin was a stone wall, allowing just a lone Kim Johnsson goal, and the Lightning would win the East and eventually the Cup.
5. May 18, 2008 Eastern Conference Finals Game 5 at Pittsburgh (Penguins 6, Flyers 0)
Another win or go home game, another embarrassing performance, this at the hands fo Crosby, Malkin in company. Now, to be fair, the Flyers exceeded expecations by going to the East Finals, but they compeltlely ran out of steam by this point.
4. May 20, 2004 Eastern Conference Finals Game 6 vs. Tampa Bay (Flyers 5, Lightning 4 OT)
A win that kept the Flyers alive one mroe day and one of the best home playoff games in a long while. Tampa Bay was two minutes away from the Finals before KEith Primeau tied the game at 4 late in the 3rd. Then, in overtime, Simon Gagne would score top shelf on Khabibulin to send the series to game seven.
3. April 22, 2008 Eastern Conference Quarterfinals Game 7 at Washington (Flyers 3, Capitals 2 OT)
In a very competitive and hard hitting series, the Flyers upset the Southeast Division champs in game seven overtime. IT would be Joffrey Lupul who woudl score the winner, stunning the Washignton crowd and sending the Flyers to Montreal.
2. May 4, 2000 Eastern Conference Semifinals Game 4 at Pittsburgh (Flyers 4, Penguins 3 5 OT)
This would be the longest game in Flyers history and a game that only a few brave souls watched live to its conclusion. After a long, tiring battle through 5 overtimes, it would be Keith Primeau beating Ken Wregget to win the game for Philly, and bring the momentum in the series the Flyers way.
1. May 26, 2000 Eastern Conference Finals Game 7 vs. New Jersey (Devils 2, Flyers 1)
What a heartbreaking game. Watching Scott Stevens take a complelty dirty shot at Eric Lindros and then Patrik Elias, scoring late in the thrid to win the game and send the Devils to the Finals. Like Tampa Bay, New Jersey would win the Cup.
