Hey guys, as some of you know, Thanksgiving is my absolute favorite holiday in the world and I figured what better way to kick off the holiday and my new blog than with the top 10 reasons why Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday.
10. Thanksgiving Day parades
I'm not the biggesyt fan of parades, unless a sports championship is involved, and I kind of see Thanksgiving parades as corny and cliche in a way, but they are tradition nonetheless and the day wouldn't be the same without them.
9. Being lazy
Come on, one of the greatest things about Thanksgiving and really any big holiday is doing NOTHING. Just sitting around, eating lots of food, and relaxing. That's what Thanksgiving especially is all about.
8. Paul VI-Camden Catholic Football
This can go for anyone that goes/went to a high school with a Thankdgiving rivalry. Nothing beats meeting up with old high school buddies and rooting on your alma mater to victory over your archrivals. As long as the game is actually on Thanksgiving day and not on Saturday (due to "rain" one year) or Wednesday (because god forbid we don't play a night game).
7. The four day weekend
Forget the stupid little three day weekends we get with Martin Luther, Presidents, and Columbus Days. This is a guarenteed four day weekend every single year. Hard to beat that, (unless you have four day weekends built into your semster schedule like I usually do.)
6. Detroit Lions Football
Wait the Lions?!?!? Yeah, they have played every Thanksgiving since 1934 and are as much as a tradition as anything else on the holiday. Besides, it's always either a good game (aka late 1990's) or we get to laugh at how bad the team is (aka Titans 47 Lions 10 last year).
5. Being thankful for our country
I'm not the most patriotic person and in the past this wouldn't be so high on the list, but while we sit at home and enjoy the holiday, there are soldiers overseas defending our freedom. We live in the greatest country in world with all the freedoms we could want, and we should always be thankful for that.
4. Start of Christmas Season
There's really no excuse to complain about Christmas starting too early from here on out. The "coommerical" Christmas season has started, whether you like it or not, it's here.
3. Turkey
Yay for turkey wings, turkey legs, and all the white and dark meat in between. There is no other feeling than tearing apart a piece of turkey while watching football, it's one of the best feelings in the world. Speaking of football.....
2. Dallas Cowboys football
Watching the Cowboys play football on Thanksgiving is a way of life, (for me at least). I love sitting down at 4 or 430 and flipping on the TV, and just being able to sit down and watch my team for three hours, without a worry in the world. Even in bad years (aka early 2000's) it's always a joy to be a part of.
1. Being with family and friends
This is by far the biggest and most important ingriedient to Thanksgiving. What would eating food and wtahcing football be without anyone to enjoy it with. This hoilday is all about being with your family and friends and just enjoying the company. Loved ones are the absolute most central part of this holiday and without others, this none of the above nine would mean anything to me.
